How to Bring Positive Energy in Your Home

It is my firm belief that spirituality and religion go hand-in-hand. I have seen many authentic religious followers who find spirituality in their prayers and I have met many spiritual people who find religion in nature and meditation (beautiful huh?) Anyways, I consider myself a deeply spiritual person. I was raised in a Muslim family, but I accept and incorporate teaching and traditions of all religions in my relationship with God (I swear I was writing God and I accidently wrote GPS and I though God is like the GPS in our lives).

My bedroom is my haven in my house. If you walk in, you will see large and small crystals, photographs of family and friends, spirituality and non-fiction books, and peacock feathers. It is my space and I have decorated it so it represents me. That’s why whenever I walk in, I feel so light and positive.  Hence, that is where I meditate and pray each day.

It got me thinking. If I can create a positive haven in my room, why can’t my followers do the same? So came the inspiration for this post. Today, I will write on how to create positive energy in your bedroom, prayer room, or your whole house.

Everything is energy. It is an abstract statement, but if you think about it the statement makes spirituality or religion very accessible. You have probably heard the phrase “you attract what you give off” or “when you feel negative, change the environment around you”. Well, that is energy. We can’t see it, but it’s there.

Chi or energy is experienced through senses. Color, form, sound, touch, temperature, and scent are all felt as Chi. You don’t need to give your space a makeover, but by incorporating the following changes you can add beauty, harmony, order, and clarity in your surroundings. How can you do that? Well, read on.

1.     Clear the air

Open windows and let the sunshine and fresh air circulate around your space. If you use a lot of technology, get a Himalayan Salt lamp which neutralizes the positive ions from computers and cell phones.

2.     Add color

Most people like to have the modern touch in their homes or rooms, but I feel that is too stale and stagnate. If you want life in your space, you got to add color or a pop of color to add radiance and vivacity.Here is a quick rundown to get an idea:Reds are great for romance and action, but too much can invite anger. Orange suggests warmth and enthusiasm, but too much can cause restlessness. Yellows invite joy and inspiration, but too much can cause feelings of uncertainty. Greens are healing and nurturing, but overdoing green can induce laziness. Blues are calming and peaceful, but too much blue (particularly deep blue or indigo) can attract depressive energy. Purples are good for inspiration and luxury. Violet in particular is good for healing and manifesting. Too many purples or violets can call in serious and even sorrowful energy. No matter what colors are used in your décor, be sure to strive for BALANCE.

3.     Put up some art

Whether you can afford a Van Gough or not, art brings personality into your space. It reflects what your tastes are so to give your space a personal and intimate feel, add some artwork. Hang it, put it on a table, you name it, it works!

4.     Light soy candles/incense/sage

I do this whenever I feel there is negativity in the house. Maybe after a fight or a bad memory that comes back from nowhere, it is important to light some candles with smell or incense/sage to banish the negativity from your home. I buy Super Scented Soy Candle Tin by Candeo Candle and for incense I use sage (Frankincense and myrrh is also recommended). One thing I learned through experience is that sage has a strong smell so it is a good idea to open a window or two so you don’t feel overwhelmed.

5.     Decorate with crystals

I love crystals! Crystals are natural objects found in earth so they too have healing energies. They have been used for thousands of years to remove mental, physical, and spiritual blockages in animals and people. I even use them on my body when I meditate. They help you connect with the planet’s energy making you feel more balanced and relaxed. Turquoise helps you heal, bloodstone grounds you, Rose Quartz helps you cultivate love, Carnelian is good for creativity, Citrine gives you energy and confidence, and Amethyst is great for insight. Other crystals have other benefits so do research and you will find a combination that works for you.

6.     Turn on music

I learned that Taylor Swift and many other artists listen to music when they are writing their songs. Music is so therapeutic and for some, it is a great source to invoke creativity. I use and recommend music for meditation as well. I just download music from iTunes and listen to it whenever I am feeling low or negative. Two soundtracks I recommend for your meditations are “Crystal Bowls Chakra Chants” by Jonathan Goldman and Crystal Jones and for a guided meditation (for newbies) I recommend “Guided Chakra Balancing Meditation” by Greg de Vries. They work!
